STOOPIN’ AROUND L.A.

UP IN CHINO

Here is the view that I got to enjoy during my weekend stay in Chino, CA. The cold weather in December resulted in beautiful snow-capped mountains which you can see in the distance. Being at the top of the hill provided serenity for a much needed escape.

This is Lucky, the dog that doesn’t age.  He’s looked the same for almost a decade and hasn’t moved from his spot in the hallway since I last saw him.  If there ever was a philosophical dog, it’d be Lucky.  He just chills in that one spot pondering all day, I wonder how he would explain the meaning of life.

The view from the back yard/acre.  Is that the Staples Center?

LENS ENVY

A few days ago, I stopped by Samy’s over on Fairfax to satiate my new hobby obsession, photography. On the third floor, I came across an extensive display of vintage 35mm cameras and equipment.  Here’s a look at some of their vintage Leica’s, a serious camera for a serious enthusiast and also seriously expensive.

If I were to take a wild guess at the age of some of these cameras, I’d guess they’d be around 30-40 years old.  It made me wonder, if each camera had a story to tell, what might it be?

A vintage fisheye lens, also my current weapon of choice..

Some vintage Leica bodies.

PROTEIN THE CUBAN WAY

This is Versailles, home to a wide range of delectable Cuban cuisine.  They’re known for their famous Garlic Chicken plate (#6 on the menu ).  A half piece of chicken is prepared and seasoned with a generous amount of homemade garlic sauce and accompanied with slices of raw onion, deep-fried plantains, a plate of Cuban rice and a small cup of black beans. Delicious!  Make sure you ask for the Tapatio Hot Sauce (which I’ve since loaded up on) and don’t be afraid to let your chicken swim in the fiery dressing. I try to eat here every time I come out west and every time I’m lucky enough to make it through their doors, I’ve never ordered anything other than #6.  You wont either…

There are no better halves here.

Licked them clean.

Yes, I’ll be back.
